RSC 💜

The Rainbow Scrap Challenge color for September is purple. My RSC goal this year is to whittle down my stack of 5" scrap charm squares by turning them into baby quilts, 9 squares across by 11 squares down, therefore "99 Charms" quilts. Here are the two purple baby quilts I made.
My Quilt Info #1:
Pattern: 99 Charms
Size: 40" x 51"
Batting: Quilters Dream 80/20
Thread: Glide--Lavender
Pantograph: Rosemary ⤵️ from Dastardly Quilt Studio
"Rosemary" quilting gives such great coverage! It looks hand guided and organic, as all of Deborah's pantographs do.
I don't have a lot of purple, but I did manage to come up with 2 quilts by looking through my collection and cutting some more 5" charms.
I have very little purple left!
Having no purple fabric for the backing, I fell in love with this duvet cover at IKEA. ⤵️ It's called Mattoxbär and was priced at $39.99 for the Twin size. That's $20 over my usual price goal, but I had a $20 off coupon from the points I accumulated at IKEA.

I do love this print! It was pretty much the only duvet cover at IKEA with purple in it.
My Quilt Info #2:
Pattern: 99 Charms
Size: 41" x 50"
Batting: Quilters Dream 80/20
Thread: Glide--Lavender
Pantograph: Lovegrass ⤵️ from Urban Elementz
This is my second time to post this quilt. I first posted it on July 3, earlier this summer when I had an opening on my longarm. But because it's one of the purple 99 Charms quilts for September, I'm reposting it here.
"Lovegrass" is a type of grass, sometimes decorative, sometimes used to feed animals or prevent erosion. I like the quilting for its swirls!!!
The backing on this one is flannel. ⤴️⤵️
My RSC 99 Charms quilt count for 2026:

  1. I’m having trouble publishing comments today, too, Nancy - until I tried an Apple device. Then they publish! 🤷🏻‍♀️. Your purple charm quilts are lovely! I always trouble putting purples together because there are so many different shades - red-purple, blue-purple, some that even look on the brown scale. But in your quilts, everything works. Beautiful quilts!

  2. The baby quilts are so clever, I like anything made up with squares. I love mixing the blue-purples & the red-purples together as they balance everything so well.

  3. I tried to post a comment too! So apparently all is back to normal in Blogger-land today.
I love your purples, and I like the colors you mix in with them. Do you know you are a great inspiration for me when it comes to color/fabric choices? :) The quilting you chose really adds to the "charm" of these!

  5. I’m here on Saturday. I love looking at all your fabrics. I’m still trying to use up crumbs, but I’d really like to try the 99 Charms quilt. They are all fabulous!

  6. I wasn't able to post either. . .but, it appears there has been a fix! I sure like the backing that was over your usual budget but, using points brought it into line. . .Interesting how it works sometimes. .. perhaps, this was an example of divine intervention? Your rosemary panto was perfect with that backing!

  9. You are a real inspiration with the wonderful baby charm quilts you make. I know I've got some 5 inch squares tucked away, but where exactly, I wonder? Might have to think about this for next years RSC.

  13. Sounds like everyone was having trouble publishing comments yesterday. I was worried you'd have three from me! I would not be overjoyed if I used up all my purple (or blue) (or green) scraps, but to make such beautiful quilts with scraps must bring so much joy! These are lovely!

  16. Your IKEA backing fabric is just perfect to go with those purple squares. At least someone is seeing the bottom on one of their scrap bins. I'm not sure mine will ever be empty.

  23. Those baby quilts are stunners! I'm curious about the Ikea fabric. Is it a good thread count? Do you find it soft and supple or it it more like canvas?

    1. I used an IKEA "duvet cover", not fabric. The thread count is light, I would say thinner than quilters cotton, which is why I always pre-wash/shrink it. It is acceptable in my book. It is not the canvas decorator fabrics IKEA sells as 3 meter precut bundles.

  24. Aha -- love that you snuck that Vikings fabric into your purple charm quilt! And I'm intrigued by IKEA bedding as a backing source. You are so resourceful!

  25. The Rosemary pantograph is on my "for one-day-quilt-design board" :) I agree it looks so lovely. And so fitting with the backing you picked. How convenient you collected so many points! And as always two beautiful RSC projects. xo

  26. I struggle to find purple prints to add to my stash; I think it's a less frequently chosen color for many collections. I'm impressed with the lovely quilts you were able to make for the RSC color this month, and I love that backing choice you found at IKEA. Thanks so much for linking up with Favorite Quilt Finish!
