On September 19th, my sister, my quilting cousin and I participated in a one-day virtual retreat with Gudrun at GE Designs. Here's my finished quilt!!!
The three of us participated from our own home studios, keeping in touch by text. π We were in Session 1, Saturday, along with 218 other quilters on Zoom. There was another group in Session 2 on the following Wednesday.
There were quilters from 7 countries that participated, including quilters from all 50 US states, Washington, DC, and 5 Canadian provinces. Minnesota was the most represented state. With the GE warehouse being in Minnesota, that was no surprise to us Minnesotans! Number 2 was California, number 3 was Illinois, number 4 was Florida and number 5 was Texas.
As part of the one day retreat, we took a virtual trip on the GE high powered speed boat to South Africa. The schedule included demos, breakout rooms, videos of several South Africa towns, yoga, bingo, and games, starting at 9 AM and finishing at 7:30 PM.
Gudrun designed this new quilt pattern exclusively for the one day retreat! ⤴️ There were 10 different fabric bundles one could choose from. I chose Kipling Gardens, pictured above. My sister, my quilting cousin and I each picked different bundles. The goody box ⤴️ came filled with surprises, besides the fabrics! A booklet with the schedule, facts and recipes, treats, a flag and sticker for the country we were visiting, snacks, 2 South African fat quarters, and a stone bracelet.
Here are my Kipling Garden fabrics, which included 18-6" strips, background, borders and binding. ⤵️
I used this classic loopy/lacy quilting design, "Knit 1 Purl 2". ⤴️ ⤵️ To me, as a knitter, it looks like 4 cast on stitches!
I love these colorful prints!!!
Because the blocks overlap each other, the quilt is constructed in columns.
Extra wide backing is always my first choice! ⤵️ Fortunately I had some on hand!
This is quite a large quilt at 70" x 91". Gudrun labels it "Lap/Twin" but it also covers my "Full" size bed!
Gudrun just announced a bonus "free" 1-day virtual retreat on Sunday, November 15th. It is free with the purchase of her new pattern, "Soffia", which is at the reduced bargain price of $5.95 through November 3rd. After that the price will go up to $17.95.

There is no retreat box or fabric for this bonus retreat--use your own stash! There will be online demos by Gudrun at 10, noon, 2 and 4 PM, on YouTube. The demos will disappear from YouTube after the retreat, but will be available in your GE account if you purchase the pattern.
I hope to see your Soffia quilts!!! Miraim was a blast!!!
