To me, fuchsia is warm, feminine, colorful, vivid and friendly. Next, what to do with a half of a yard...
I started out by quilting it with some Annie's Soft and Stable:

I shrunk my figure 8 pantograph down and quilted these small figure 8's (Rose, that would be wishbones to you!) across the yardage:

Next, what to do with my beautiful quilted fabric... I've been wanting to make another The Essential Tote, by Around the Bobbin, in quilted fabric. I found my pattern and fortunately there was just enough fabric to make one!

The inside has a lot of handy pockets to stay organized:

The zipper is so easy to install in this pattern and gives the extra security we all want. I love the cute tab on the end of the zipper, too! A little Tula Pink fabric on the inside:

I recently bought some "pleather" at a sale at our local fabric warehouse, SR Harris. I love how this rosey brown colored "pleather" looks with the fuchsia:

You can see my first "The Essential Tote" here. This is a great handbag pattern in regular fabric, and an even better bag in quilted fabric! I'm really loving the fabric from my secret pal!

This is so beautiful, Nancy! I think you were right to keep this as a whole piece of fabric to make the bag instead of adding it into a quilt.
ReplyDeleteGreat bag Nancy, I love the combination of the quilted fabric and the pleather.
ReplyDeleteI wish you could have seen my face while I was reading your post at the beginning when you talked about the "figure 8" quilting and I said it's "Wishbone" and lo and behold there's a little shoutout for me. I guiltily chucked. I love both of your bags and how gorgeous it is with the pleather. But zippers, oooh, that's something I don't want to tackle. But I do have some fabrics which would look good for the bags so now I'll have to file this in my head now.
ReplyDeleteIt is perfect! What a great fabric to start with.
ReplyDeleteSo gorgeous and what fun those bags are. Another one to put in the "if I need another bag list"!
ReplyDeleteso i visited SR Harris website, I am jealous I don't have any stores like that around here. one of these days i will make a bag, yours turned out lovely.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the intro to the Essential Tote pattern. I have made several bags and have always wanted to add a zipper to the top, but couldn't figure out just how to do it. Now I will have expert instructions.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great tote. Love this fabric colour too.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great result. How good to get such a gorgeous fabric as your gift.
ReplyDeleteIt works so well in the bag.
This is so pretty! Clever use of fabric
ReplyDeleteA great bag and lots of lovely pockets on the inside. One can never have enough pockets.
ReplyDeleteThis is stunning. It's a great use of a 1/2 yard of fabric. The pleather sets the fabric off just nicely. I like the top of the bag as well.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness that is WONDERFUL! You quilters who make bags just impress me to no end. I have serious bag envy. :D This bag looks professionally made and I love the color too. Great choice!
ReplyDeleteThis bag is truly lovely. Now you are ready to go out and have tea with a friend!

That tote is gorgeous!!! Great idea to use up that half yard. No matter how long I've left those little pieces on the shelf, they don't get bigger or multiply.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE it! It looks fantastic, that gorgeous fuchsia and the pleather bottom. Did you have to quilt it or was that just your preference?
ReplyDeleteHi Nancy,
ReplyDeleteOh, what wonderful fabric . . . but even more wonderful is your idea and finished tote! Holy moly - great idea. All those pockets inside - how useful.

What a neat bag, Nancy! The perfect use of that gorgeous fabric. I love the other fabrics and colors you chose for the bag. Really super!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a great bag! And that fabric looks lovely in it! I hope your secret pal sees you using the tote!
ReplyDeleteGreat finish! I like that bag with the contrast bottom, certainly more durable in pleather! I like lots of pockets inside a bag too.
ReplyDeleteThis is fabulous, and yeah, looks awesome with the pleather! I may have to investigate that...trouble with being the host of these DrEAMi! parties is I ALWAYS find more squirrels to chase! Love all the pockets you put in, and the splash of Tula gave me a smile! Thanks for linking up!
ReplyDeleteFinally read your blog that went along with the Instagram post. The bag is super, and what a great find at SR Harris!
ReplyDeleteGreat use for that length of fabric. All those pockets look so handy.
ReplyDeleteI love everything about this tote! Great choice of project for that fabric.
ReplyDeleteA great use for your secret fabric! I love all the pockets and zipper.
