Here's the results of the latest quilt-along I participated in!!!
Quilt Info:
Pattern: Glam Clam and the 8" Glam Clam template by Latifah Saafir
Size: 19" X 36"
Batting: Hobbs 80/20, Black
Thread: Glide--Navy
Quilting: First quilt--Ikat #1 ⤵️ from Urban Elementz
Interesting Info: Latifah held a "Finish Along", with the idea that quilters who took classes with her and started their Glam Clam quilts would now have an incentive to finish them. I haven't been lucky enough to have a class with Latifah yet. But, I have had her templates and pattern for several years. So this Finish Along was a good motivator for me to start AND finish a Glam Clam quilt.
Then I made a second one, because as Latifah says, you can't make just one--you have to do something with the clam shells that you didn't use in your first one!!!
Most of these fabrics are antique recycled Japanese indigos!⤴️⤵️
Grace and peace!!! ~Nancy
I sized my quilt to hang in this empty spot I had overhead, while going down our stairway. I used a hang it dang it quilt hanger and a Command Hook to hang it.⤵️
For the backing on both quilts, I used this shibori-look fabric from Naomi Collection out of Tokyo. I have a hanging sleeve on my keeper version in the photo below. ⤵️
Latifah did a video during the Finish Along on how to do a "chunky binding". I used her technique and cut my Ikat look bindings at 5". A binding this wide can replace a border. ⤵️Now, this was my first and second time to use my Glam Clam templates, but DD2 has used them before me! Last year she made this fun wall hanging using the 6" template to add some color to her room! She quilted it herself, with a different motif in each clam!!!⤵️

Are the clams appliqued onto a background? Great finishes Nancy.
ReplyDeleteNo, it is not applique, but machine pieced, starting with the top row (the easiest one!) on down to the bottom row, and always left to right.
