The June Rainbow Scrap Challenge is orange. I'm working on a nine-patch and snowball quilt for the RSC in 2025, inspired by Saija's quilt, here. Saija was inspired by Blue Elephant Stitches, here!!! I made nine orange 9-patch blocks for June:
Here's how I store my scrap 2 1/2" squares. ⤵️ I make my 9-patches at the beginning of the month. That way, if I need more squares than I have in my container, I can cut squares off my scrappy jelly roll strips.
I have enough orange 2 1/2" strips for two jelly roll drag race quilts, coming later this month!Grace and peace!!! ~Nancy
Love your box of precut squares. Looks a lot more usable than my squished mash of all scraps. xo
ReplyDeleteA lovely collection for the orange blocks. I can see some very cute fussy cut blocks in there, too.
ReplyDeleteIt is a smart idea to have pieces cut and ready to go.
I'm jealous of your precut squares! I like your orange blocks. I recognized DecoStitch, which I love - I want every color!
ReplyDeleteI dont have alot of orange varieties in my stash but I'm learning to love orange and yellows which i had always shy'd away from. Your 9patch and snowball quilt is going to be fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI needed orange one time awhile back, for a quilt I was working on. Oh my gosh, I had a terrible time finding anything in my stash that could be called 'orange'. I suppose you'd say that's my least favorite color, lol. Your blocks are beautiful. And, no, I don't have any of the same fabrics! :)
ReplyDeleteThere were fewer familiar prints than I would have expected. Love the mix of squares in those 9-patch blocks. I have similar boxes to hold my squares. One has 2.5", and others have 5" and 3.5". There are 4 little cookie tins holding the 1.5". It's amazing how often I'm digging into these looking for just the right square.
ReplyDeleteI didn't see any of your orange squares that I have in my own stash, but it's still fun to look at them up close. I Spy(ed) Saturn! Your blocks look great, Nancy!
ReplyDeleteYou are on a scrappy roll my friend! There are none of those oranges in my stash.
ReplyDeleteI recognized at least three oranges in your blocks! I don't think we've ever shared such a "high" number of common scraps! Your squares container looks beautiful. . .I too usually leave the fabric in strips and cut squares as needed. --TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteI finally found fabric that I have too! I have the orange background with the yellow planets and moons! I love reading your blog and getting inspired.
ReplyDeleteOrange is one of my favorite colors, Nancy! I don't seem to have any of the same fabrics that you have. I am looking forward to seeing the jelly race scrap quilts! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the variety of your oranges and believe it or not, I don't have any of yours in my stash! :)
ReplyDeleteI like that you included really pale oranges in your blocks. They add so much intrest.
ReplyDeleteYou must have a lot of orange strips since you are promising two orange jelly roll drag race quilts very soon.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot of pretty oranges little squares! I may share one fabric, the one that looks like a Tahitian (or Hawaiian) one, with a white hibiscus. Cute Hello Kitties ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your lovely blocks, and linking up!
These blocks are so pretty, Nancy. Hello Kitty made me smile- love the whimsy of it. Cute Cute! Cute!
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love the June color! It's my favorite. You have a nice assortment of prints, but I'm shocked that I don't recognize a single one that's in my stash (my oranges are running very low). Though I think I see an Alison Glass print that I have in a different colorway. Good stuff here, Nancy!
ReplyDeletePretty orange blocks! That quilt is going to be amazing. I'm trying to use up 2-1/2" squares too, always good to have some already cut. I didn't find any familiar orange. Cute Kitty!
ReplyDeleteYou have some lovely orange scraps....that is a color that is lacking in my stash!
ReplyDeleteI love the photo of Saija's quilt & can't wait to see yours at the end of the year. I regularly process scraps into 2.5" squares & store them in drawers so it's easy to pull them out each month & make some blocks with them. Organization is awesome!
ReplyDeleteI always admire your 9 patches filled with such cute fabrics - especially Hello Kitty! I didn't spot any of my orange fabrics. Thank you for sharing how you store your 2.5" squares! Love that idea!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I have a single orange that matches yours. Thanks for sharing in Sew & Tell.
ReplyDeleteYep -- the Art Gallery oval. I used it in my orange RSC blocks, too.
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty orange fabrics! It's fun to see the different designs. Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.

You have a nice collection of oranges. I was thinking about my orange fabric today while sewing an orange strip on a string block. It was pretty old but didn't look out of date. Either I don't know what is "new" or orange fabrics don't go "out" the way blue and green both do. I like looking at all your blocks... I think I have maybe two jelly rolls. I just don't tend to buy them. And, I'm really trying to make a dent in my stash without going gaga over new fabrics!
ReplyDeleteSo cool to see another version of a nine patch and snowball quilt. Great that you got so many blocks done already for this month. I have one "in progress" from when I started RSC in 2021 although it is of another design. Precut scraps (or as Bonnie Hunter calls it, the "Scrap Users" system) are the way to go. More scrap projects die before they get started because one look at an overstuffed scrap bin and most people run for fresh yardage at the quilt store, LOL!
