Bonnie's Ridiculously Easy🍥Jelly Roll🍥Quilt

Quilter Bonnie made this super cute quilt from a jelly roll she had been saving for something special:
Quilt Info:
Maker: Quilter Bonnie
Pattern: The Ridiculously Easy Jelly Roll Quilt by Michelle @ From Bolt To Beauty
Fabrics: Best Day Ever by April Rosenthal for Moda Fabrics
Size: 60" X 71"
Thread: Glide--White
Batting: Quilters Dream 80/20 White
Quilting: Lilac from Urban Elementz
Interesting Info: Quilter Bonnie swapped a couple of fabrics out and in from her jelly roll, to avoid prints washing into the background.
In staying with the floral, colorful, happy vibes of this fabric, I quilted it with "Lilac", a big loopy, happy flower: ⤴️⤵️
For backing, Quilter Bonnie found this white on white print at Hobby Lobby.⤵️
Super happy quilt, Quilter Bonnie!!!

Grace and peace!!! ~Nancy

  7. I love Quilter Bonnie's choices -- and Michelle's pattern! Also love your Lilac E2E quilting. Just perfect for this quilt, and you did a great job scaling the panto to fit the piecing, too -- that's something I've been experimenting with lately. I love how your quilted flower fits so nicely in the white space between the print chevrons. At first glance, it almost looks like a custom quilt job with freehand flowers in the white space. Okay, two questions for you: First, when you use Glide in your needle, I assume you mean 40 weight Glide, right? Do you self-wind your bobbins with the same Glide 40, or do you use MagnaGlide prewounds? And if you do use those MagnaGlides, do you use the 40 weight MagnaGlide Delights that come in lots of colors, or the 60 weight MagnaGlide Classics that come in bigger boxes but far fewer colors? I've been experimenting with that, too, and am seeing that my tension is better overall with the lighter weight bobbin thread and it's amazing how much longer the bobbins are lasting, too. Ooh, and one more question -- I saw red snappers peeking out on your canvas in one picture. Would love to hear your thoughts on that system. I've been pinning backing all this time but have seen a few other quilters recommending the Red Snapper system. Are the dowels difficult to install? Does the system work as well as pins and does it really save you that much time? How much extra backing do you need to use the Red Snappers? Any downsides? I stabbed myself pinning last night (again), so reconsidering other options. Thanks! :-)

    1. Thanks, Rebecca! To answer your questions: ~Yes, I am talking Glide 40 weight when I write Glide. I always note when I use Glide 60.
~Yes, I wind my own bobbins. The super fast bobbin winder came with the APQS and it's a money saver. I don't use MagnaGlides because I'd need more stock than I care to have on hand--it's easier to just have 2 large spools and use one for winding bobbins and one for the longarm top thread. Also, it's easier for me to charge my clients for thread--I charge per bobbin, which is the same amount as the top thread.
~Red Snapppers--I love them! I'd recommend them in a heartbeat. They work really well, make loading a lot quicker and less stabbing of self!?! They're easy to install. The hardest part is getting around to installing them, just because it might seem intimidating! But once they're on--great!!! They can be a bit stiff at first and take some muscle work to attach, but they get broken in with use. Also, I noticed they were cold and stiff yesterday, so I set them on top of the heater floor vent and that softened them right up for easy use.
~Red Snappers need the same amount of extra fabric--4" on each side. They are the best longarm tool ever!!!
~The only downside I can think of is that our granddog got ahold of one of the 2" segments and chewed it to bits! Keep them out of reach of dogs!!!

  11. This is a great pattern to use a favorite jelly roll! I made one last fall with black as the background and it was striking! My quilting wasn't as good as yours, but still it was given with love to may someday-son-in-law for his 30th birthday.

  20. I know I already commented on IG, but I have to join in the accolades here. This is the perfect mid-winter project: All those oranges and greens and yellows remind us that spring will (eventually!) get here. : )
