This quilt falls into a couple of categories for me: 1. a DrEAMi/squirrel project--I had a free evening, so I decided to put this together. And 2. the fussy-cut category running this week with Project Quilting, found here.
Quilt Info:
Size: 15" X 15"
Batting: Quilters Dream Wool
Thread: Glide--various blues
Quilting: Free motion quilting
Interesting Info: This is my second time to make this quilt! I gave my first one, inspired by Cassandra @ My (not so) Dramatic Life and made in solids, to our guild's annual silent auction. This time I decided to use vintage Japanese indigo fabrics. I used Wonder Under to fasten the circles down.
The quilting consists of grid lines, then going around and around and around each circle!!!
Each inside circle was fussy-cut, although it may only be obvious with the four large flowers. Here's the center flower block:
For the backing, I used part of an IKEA linen pillow case that has an indigo dyed look. Here's a photo of the backing, along with my hanging system using corner tabs and Command strips:
I used a piece of wool batting that was hanging around and just the right size, AKA, convenient. It did add way too much puff, though! I was able to tame the puffing down quite a bit by going over it with a steam iron from the back, after it was finished.
Grace and peace!!! ~Nancy

ReplyDeleteVery unique! I love the circle quilting you have done. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYeah, your beautiful mini quilt is featured on my today's linky party ;)
ReplyDeleteI love your circle quilt. I’ve made several circle quilts using my circle attachment and fusible interfacing for the backing and then press on the block and hand stitch it down. Some call it an “I Spy” quilt. I also love your idea for hanging the quilt. I decided recently to just make wall quilts for awhile. Do you wash your wall quilts? I washed and dried one I rally wanted hanging on my wall, but now it’s crinkly, which I want in big quilts. I tried to iron it, and it’s still crinkly.
ReplyDeleteI missed this lovely mini when I looked at the PQ thumbnails. So glad that Tish featured it. Love your use for those japanese fabrics.
ReplyDeleteThis is just fabulous Nancy! The quilting is perfect. Love the backing too, and will remember how you hang your minis...I usually just stick to thin small pins in each corner into the drywall lol.
ReplyDeleteHello Nancy,
